Data Sources

Live data sources for this site are as follows:

Bus Information (including Park & Ride)

Service status information is derived from an algorithm comparing timetable information with the arrival of buses en route at timing points.

Live bus information for individual routes is derived from tracking devices and the standard journey times between the current position of the bus and the bus stop. Where live route information is not available (usually because the service in question does not carry GPS equipment) timetable information may be displayed (denoted by TT). Live bus information within the Borough of Reading and on routes servicing the Borough is provided by Reading Borough Council in its role as Highway Authority and is relayed to this site via the Council's Open Data Server. The facility is open to all bus operators whose vehicles carry equipment and who wish to participate in the service.

Rail Information

Poweredby NRE220

Live information on train arrivals and departures is provided by National Rail Enquiries, fed through the Reading Open Data Server. National Rail Enquiries is part of the Association of Train Operating Companies. Information is provided on this site for stations within the Reading area and for journeys to and from Reading in the Reading travel to work area.

London Underground

London Underground information is provided by Transport for London through their Developer's Area.

Traffic Cameras

Reading Borough Council operates traffic cameras 24 hours a day at sites around the Borough. This site displays the live feed from the cameras. At various times camera feeds may become unavailable because of weather conditions or damage to equipment, though this is rare. The most frequent reason camera feeds are taken off line is when road accidents or other incidents occur. In such cases the feed may be taken down at the request of the Police as footage may contribute to evidence in criminal or civil proceedings.

News Ticker

Information is provided by Reading Borough Council and news updates from BBC Berkshire.

Live Traffic Flow

Live traffic flow maps are provided by Google as an open application. The information is derived from the aggregation of GPS device information by Google.

Motorways

Motorway information is provided by the Highways Agency.

Reading Corridors

Information on Reading's road network is provided by Reading Borough Council through its Open Data Server and is based on its roadside network of variable message signs.

Car Parks

Car park capacity and current use information is provided by Reading Borough Council from its Open Data Server based on counting devices at each of the locations shown.

Current Roadworks

Current roadworks information is based on scheduling information from the national roadworks database.
