Travel By - Taxi

Local Authorities in the UK are responsible for the regulation and licencing of taxis and their drivers. 

There are two forms of taxi available in Reading. Although they are both normally refered to as 'taxis' their licencing conditions and methods of operation are quite different.

Hackney Carriages

In Reading Hackney Carriages are London style 'black cabs'. They can be hailed at the roadside or at taxi ranks and have fares determined by meter.

Private Hire Vehicles

Private Hire cars (sometimes referred to as 'min-cabs') are saloon cars or people carrier style vehicles which must be pre-booked with the operator. As well as door-to-door journeys they are hired for weddings, events and airport journeys.
