Local Sustainable Transport Fund

Reading was awarded over £25m from the Department for Transport's Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), to deliver local improvements to encourage economic growth and reduce carbon emissions.

The funding comprises £4.9m for a LSTF Small Project and £20.7m for a LSTF Large Project. The Large Project has been delivered in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council, West Berkshire Council and NHS Berkshire West.

The main elements of the LSTF programme are personalised travel planning; fares, ticketing and information provision; cycle hire; active travel interventions to promote walking and cycling; and park and ride.

Projects delivered as part of the LSTF programme include:

  • Pedestrian cycle bridge across the River Thames.
  • ReadyBike cycle hire scheme.
  • Mereoak park & ride site.
  • Winnersh Triangle park & ride site.
  • Network of roadside digital message signs.
  • Upgrade traffic signals.
  • Live journey time monitoring system.
  • Residential and business personalised travel planning.
