Mereoak Park & Ride

August 2015

A new park and ride site providing nearly 600 parking spaces has opened. The Mereoak Park & Ride site will benefit the many thousands of people who travel into Reading from the south every day. The site, just to the south of M4 Junction 11, offers a regular Greenwave bus service to and from central Reading and includes 573 car parking spaces and improved pedestrian and cycle paths alongside the car park along with cycle and motorbike parking.

Clean green CNG powered Greenwave buses, operated by Reading Buses, run an average five times an hour from the site in Mereoak Lane, Three Mile Cross, Monday to Saturday. Some journeys travel direct to the town centre while others stop at Reading International Business Park, Madejski Stadium or Kennet Island. There is a 50p per day parking charge on top of the bus fare. Football and rugby fans can also take advantage of match day shuttle buses running from the site to Madejski Stadium.

Councillor Tony Page, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said: “I’m delighted to see this great new park and ride service operating to the south of Reading. It will provide thousands of commuters and visitors to the town with a sustainable and effective alternative to long stay town centre parking. It should also take some of the pressure off the town’s busy road network.

Mereoak Park & Ride is situated in Wokingham Borough but the scheme was funded through Reading Borough Council’s successful Local Sustainable Transport Fund bid to the Department for Transport, in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council.
