National Cycle Network

NCN 4

National Route 4  of the National Cycle Network is a long distance route between London and Fishguard via Reading, Bath, Bristol, Newport, Swansea, Carmarthen, Tenby, Haverfordwest and St. Davids. The route is fully open and signed, although the route has not been finalised in central London between Greenwich and Putney Bridge.

The route follows, roughly, the course of the River Thames from London to Reading then from Reading follows the River Kennet to Bath through Newbury and Hungerford.

NCN 5

National Route 5 of the National Cycle Network is a long distance route which connects Reading and Holyhead via Oxford, Banbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Birmingham, Walsall, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent, Chester, Colwyn Bay and Bangor. However, the section between Walsall and Stafford is still under development.

National Route 5 begins in Reading and follows the northern half of the Thames Valley cycle route crossing the Chiltern Hills and passing through Wallingford, Didcot and Abingdon.

NCN 23

National Route 23 of the National Cycle Network runs south from Reading to Southampton via Basingstoke, Alresford, Winchester and Eastleigh with a spur to Alton.

The route continues on the Isle of Wight from Cowes and Sandown via Newport with a ferry running between Southampton and Cowes.
